Vampire Lore


Vampires are the undead that rise from the grave during the night to drink the blood of the living. Myths related to the dead come from many cultures. Vampires have captivated the interest of humans for centuries so there are many theories on their way of life and how to destroy them.
Listed below are some of the ones we know of...

Drinking blood is their only sustenance.
A victim of a vampire either dies or becomes a vampire.
Vampires were thought to be able to take on several different forms such as a bat, wolf or other assorted animals.
It was said that they could also turn to mist.
Vampires could not be out in the sunlight.
Vampires can not reproduce.
Vampires can live for centuries and never age.
Vampires have control over animals like rats and wolves.
Some were thought to have the ability to fly.
Most vampires return to their coffins to sleep but some prefer to return to their graves.
Vampires' coffins were supposed to have earth from their homeland.
Vampires can not cross running water.
A vampire can not enter a place uninvited. Once he is invited in, its too late.
Vampires have no reflection.
Vampires can not stand to look at the symbol of the Christian crucifix nor can they touch it.
Vampire Protection
In order to protect yourself from a vampire, the cross or crucifix was thought to be very powerful also garlic was used.
Silver was not used as told in books & movies. Iron was placed around an area that needed protection.
Once a vampire was discovered, it could be destroyed several different ways. This could be by cremation, cutting off its head, exposing it to sunlight or by driving a stake through its heart. Other superstitions told that a vampire could be destroyed by touching it with a crucifix, drenching it in holy water and garlic.
